Many moons back, I saw on facebook some news item about three students inventing prototype undergarments that would deliver electric shocks to molesters. Now this struck me as a response in the same category as KILL THOSE RAPISTS responses post-December gang rape. I.E, valid and acceptable first responses that would die a natural death as more complex ways of thinking about sexual violence were adopted.
But no. I see in today's newspaper that the above mentioned three engineering students of SRM University are actually going to make these chaddis and bras and that they are apparently getting an enthusiastic response. See now what these bras and chaddis will do is it will deliver an electric shock to molestors who touch the wearer (I can sort of see the enthusiasm for this aspect) but then its embedded GPS will inform the Police and the girl's family.

Don't these well-meaning numbskulls get it?? Their 'solution' to this 'rape problem' are undergarments that could could potentially provide pain and shock to its wearer (insulation, sminsulation. Clothes MOVE on the body!!), broadcast a moment of deep violation of privacy and violation of the body to the Police and to the family. Because ofcourse the reason why sexual violence exists is because the police and the family don't know it is happening. It is not in anyway related to IDEAS WE-POLICE AND FAMILY INCLUDED- ALLOW OURSELVES TO HOLD ABOUT GENDER IN SOCIETY!!! Numbskulls.
It is the GPS informing the police and the family that bothers me the most (IDIOTS!!!!). So your solution is to take agency away from women even more??
